Biophilic Art Photography
I was living in Hawai‘i on a half-acre plot. Bananas, limes, avocados, ginger, magnolia, ti and taro all grew in abundance. Countless photos of turtles and sunsets filled the galleries, yet my partner and I were drawn to the magic of abstract nature photography as a way to feel as much as see the beauty around us.
It led to a large commission at the Andaz Maui Resort Hotel, a luxury property created to source as much as possible form the local environment. So the art was created and installed in the same fashion and they opened a lobby gallery for us to share the art with hotel guests. Who wouldn’t want to take home a fine art memory of a life-changing trip to Maui? I have continued creating this work, which consists of a single image made in-camera, without AI or digital manipulation. I believe it reveals the naka — the inner vibrational state that Hawaiian people believe everything possesses.
